Dr. S. L. Garvey, a native of the Bahamas, is currently the Senior Pastor here at First Christian New Life Community Center for over 30 years. Dr. Garvey is a graduate of Winston Salem Bible College where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree. The Honorary Doctor of Humanity Degree was conferred upon Pastor Garvey by Winston Salem Bible College in May 1997. Dr. Garvey has conducted revival services and preached in churches all across the country and the Bahamas. He has also conducted workshops for the National Missionary Convention, and the North American Christian Convention. Dr. S. L. Garvey and his wife Gale have an extended family of ten children and several grandchildren.
S. B. Evans (Komaa)wasraised in Compton, CA where he lived until he married his wife, Hanifah, in the winter of 1999. He was licensed to preach by First Christian Church and was ordained in August of 2005. Since then he has been a guest speaker at several churches in the Los Angeles area. Brother Evans is a graduate of California State University, Long Beach where he received both a Bachelor's of Art degree in Liberal Studies, as well as a Master's of Science degree in Counseling. Since 2005 he has been responsible for the Sunday morning worship service and has assisted with pre-marital counseling here at First Christian.
Minister Charles M. Baxter
Minister Charles “Chucky B.” M. Baxter, was born in Coatesville, PA and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He gave his life over to his Lord Jesus Christ in 1988, and was baptized by (Pastor Dr. S. L. Garvey) at First Christian Church. Charles serves as one of the musicians at First Christian. In May 2008 Minister Baxter was ordained and now serves as Communion Meditation Minister. He and his wife Connie have an extended family of four children and several grandchildren.
Minister Dave C. Shofner
Minister David Charles Shofner, born to Othnie (Abe) and Irma Shofner, was raised in Los Angeles and Compton, CA. Minister Shofner was licensed to preach at Curry Temple C.M.E. Church in the mid 1980's. Minister Shofner attended CALEB School of theology, as well as receiving a Certificate in Ministry from Hope University. He studied under the honorable Rev. Willie H. Harris and Dr. S.L. Garvey. Minister Shofner desire is that he and his family fulfill the will of God in their lives.
